Where's Dr. Caldicott?

When I came across this Washington Post story about Pakistan obtaining nuclear-weapons plans from China, I immediately thought of "anti-nuclear" activist Dr. Helen Caldicott.

Tim Blair has noted that Caldicott, who we thought had mercifully disappeared after the Cold War ended (no prizes for guessing which side was exclusively targeted by Caldicott during these tense years) has re-emerged at anti-American rallies and conferences since 9/11. And while reading the Post article, I wondered whether Caldicott will say a damn thing about this blatant example of nuclear proliferation to a notoriously unstable country.

You know the answer to that. These people really couldn't give a damn about Pakistan - or Iran, or North Korea, or God forbid, terrorist groups - having nuclear weapons. Their targets are the United States, Israel and occasionally Britain.

That's it. And until I see evidence to the contrary, I'll never write the terms "peace movement", "anti-war movement" or "anti-nuclear movement" without judicious use of scare quotes.
