The official book of Daimnation!
I haven't read David Frum and Richard Perle's An End to Evil yet, but any book that can drive so many lefties to the brink of madness must have something going for it. A commentator in the Western Star wrote that an ad for the book "scared" her a few weeks ago (her response to 9/11 was that it was awful but maybe it would make Americans realize why they were so hated; but this book, of course, is more terrifying than the apocalyse itself).
And now Warren Kinsella, citing Lewis Lapham's savage review in Harper's, uses up his weekly allowance of cheap insults ("Mullah Frum and Mufti Perle", har har) in one post. Any book that can anger Lapham, Kinsella and the aforesaid Western Star columnist this much must be worth reading. I haven't shamelessly begged for stuff from my Amazon wish list in weeks, so will someone please get the book for me?
Update: my mistake - it's Lapham who came up with the "Mullah Frum and Mufti Perle" line, and compares Frum and Perle to Islamic extremists throughout his review. What can I say? If you really believe David Frum and Richard Perle can be legitimately compared to the likes of this, our perceptions of reality are so different there's really no point discussing the matter further.
Update II: that was fast. Thanks!
