Sex crime

[cross-posted to The Shotgun]

With the suicide of David Reimer, a notorious example of sociological quackery has come to a tragic end. Reimer, whose story was told in John Colapinto's harrowing book As Nature Made Him, was raised as a girl after a botched circumcision shortly after his birth. The case was hailed as a success, and proof that gender differences are not innate but foisted upon us through our upbringing; in reality, Reimer (raised as "Brenda") never felt like anything other than a boy, and reverted to living as a male in his teens.

Anyone who has seen Jerry Springer knows gender can be a complicated issue. There are people out there who undeniably feel like they're born in the wrong body. But the notion that sex differences are artificial "social constructs" is nothing less than a complete and utter fraud, and Reimer's tragic life is the proof. We cannot say for sure why he took his life, but who can deny that this farcical "experiment" set the horrifying process in motion?

David Reimer's life was sacrificed to a politically correct theory. What a disgusting waste.
