Phones dead
My Aliant internet service suddenly went dead last night around 10:00, and I couldn't get through to the customer service line. Looks like this was the reason why:
Phone company officials say thousands of people in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia are without phone, internet and cable because two telecommunications cables were deliberately cut.
Brenda Reid, a spokesperson for the Atlantic phone company Aliant, said the cables were cut on purpose.
The RCMP were called in early Wednesday morning to investigate.
Thousands of people living on on Newfoundland's Avalon peninsula around St. John's, along with about 5,000 customers on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore are affected.
It was't just the Avalon Peninsula. In addition to my internet service, I lost my cell phone reception last night as well.
Aliant has been on strike for a couple of months now, and this certainly isn't going to win the unions any more public support. Personally, I'm pleasantly surprised they were able to get everything working again within 12 hours.
