The communist electoral breakthrough

Remember that brief lead for the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada in one riding on election night, which Lloyd Robertson wrote off as a "computer glitch"? It was real. When the first poll was counted in Mississauga-East Cooksville, Pierre Chenier actually led the Liberal incumbent by four votes.

He ended up losing a nail-biter, 22,210 to 151. But there is at least one neighbourhood in Toronto where actual commies make up a majority, or at least a plurality, of the voters. Creepy.

In fact, the MLPC and the Communist Party of Canada got 13,633 votes between them. (The Libertarians, alas, only got 1,964.) No word on how many voted for the Canadian Nazi Party.
