Good riddance to the FMA

It looks like the cynical 'Federal Marriage Amendment' will not survive a Senate vote today.

I call the FMA and its backers 'cynical' because it's such a blatant attempt to divide the Democrats in an election year, and to pander to the GOP's social conservatives. You know I support allowing gay people to get married (which has led to some vicious battles in my comments section) but even thoughtful opponents of gay marriage should be disturbed by this blatant attempt to interfere in something which should rightfully be left up to individual states.

If it dies, may it never rise again. Prohibition should have taught Americans that you should not mess with the constitution just because of a momentarily heated issue.
