Why the CRTC will soon be obsolete

A website called JumpTV.com allows you to subscribe to foreign television channels - including Deutsche Welle, Russia's NTV, and, yes, Al-Jazeera - over the internet. I don't know how well it works, but you can be sure they'll get the technology perfected before too long - and internet content remains safely outside the CRTC's jurisdiction. For now.

The Fox News Channel is not one of the stations available through this service, but if their latest CRTC application isn't approved, I wouldn't be surprised if Rupert begins taking subscriptions over the web. (While he's at it, I'd like to see him offer Sky News, Sky Sports, Fox Sports Net and FX.)

By the way, it may surprise you to discover that Fox News is not the American channel I'm most anxious to see. It ranks second behind the NFL Network (also before the CRTC right now), and just barely ahead of ESPN. And Trio! And the History Channel. And the Sci-Fi Channel (MST3K reruns!). And HBO. And Nick at Nite. And...(I could go on like this for a while.)

Update: memo to brave Sir Robert: I know you believe the internet is your "personal free speech zone" - your words - but from here on out, I'll be deleting any of your comments where you simply copy-and-paste posts from your pathetic blog.
