The 100 Scariest Movie Scenes of All Time, according to retrocrush.com. Number one, as you might expect, is the shower scene from Psycho - a fine film, but by the time I saw it this scene had been discussed, described and parodied so often that I simply didn't find it too shocking.
There are some clever choices on the list, though - I was especially thrilled by the inclusion of Large Marge from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. For my money, the scariest thing I've ever seen in a film was in the much-maligned (though successful) Signs, when a TV news channel shows a videotape from a child's birthday party. If you haven't seen it, I won't spoil it for you.
You know what other scene still scares me, about 22 years after I first saw it? When Henry Thomas first finds E.T. in the beam of his flashlight. Go figure.
