Concordia (finally) does the right thing
The university has reversed its decision to bar Ehud Barak from speaking on campus:
Reversing its controversial position, Concordia University will invite former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak to speak on campus, after all.
"Our intent is to invite him by the end of the academic year" next May, said Dennis Murphy, the university's communications director.
"We have to make sure we can do that physically" by first making a Concordia building defendable against any attack, he added.
Security concerns forced Concordia last month to invite Barak to speak off-campus, where his safety could be guaranteed.
It says a lot about Concordia that a building has to be fortified, just so someone can make a speech.
