The fat lady is clearing her throat
It's election day, and Ipsos-Reid has the Conservatives up 37-27. Most of the major polling companies have come up with similar numbers - except SES, which has the Conservatives ahead by only six percentage points. But note that the SES tracking poll (details here, in PDF format) uses a relatively small sample size each day, and features some absolutely bizarre swings in regional support. (The Liberals are shown gaining 11 points in Atlantic Canada in a single day, nearly all of it from the NDP. The margin of error for the Atlantic results? 11 percent.) I'm sticking with my predictions from yesterday. (But note that electionprediction.org, which relies on detailed information from each riding, is calling it much closer: Conservatives 118, Liberals 104.)
Today's the big day, folks. You can find details about your electoral district and local polling stations here. I certainly hope you're planning to vote for a Conservative candidate - especially Cyril Pelley here in Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte - but even if you aren't, I encourage you to exercise one of our most cherished rights. People in Iraq and Afghanistan lined up for hours, risking their lives, to cast their ballots. Surely you can drop into your local school auditorium, church hall or Lions club and take five minutes to vote.
