Brad's big day
Newfoundlander Brad Gushue and the Canadian men's curling team are going for the gold medal this afternoon at 1:00 NST. Schools in the province are closing at lunchtime so students will have the chance to see it live.
A lot of people are complaining that a sporting event isn't important enough to justify closing the schools, and if not for these special circumstances - a Newfoundland team with a shot at the gold medal - I'd agree. But this is to Newfoundlanders what the final game of the 1972 Canada-USSR hockey series was to Canadians. Yes, it really is that big.
I have too much on my plate to justify taking the afternoon off, but hopefully CBC Radio One - in this province, at least - will broadcast the game. If they don't, maybe someone will bring down a TV. Good luck to our guys.
Update: this subject got its very own Fark thread!
