The other Dubai deals

Dubai Ports World may no longer be interested in taking over American port facilities, much to the relief of isolationists and protectionists in Congress, not to mention Democrats who suddenly decided profiling ain't such a bad idea after all. But two other Dubai-based companies, Inchcape Shipping Services and Seven Seas Shipchandlers, still hold lucrative contracts to provide essential services to the United States Navy. Funny, how that never came out during the debate over this "controversy". While we're at it, I wish someone other than the San Francsico Chronicle's Kathleen Pender had mentioned that COSCO, a company owned by the Government of China, operates a port facility in Long Beach, California.

Keeping DPW out of America won't do a darned thing to improve port security. (After 7/7, does anyone believe a British port operator couldn't possibly be infiltrated by terrorists? Does anyone believe an American port operator can't be infiltrated?) But as Time notes, it's probably going to make things very uncomfortable for Boeing, next time Emirates needs some new planes.
