Darfur update: The UN Security Council in action but where is Jack?

A resolution of August 31, 2006:

The Security Council,

...
1. Decides, without prejudice to its existing mandate and operations as provided for in resolution 1590 (2005) and in order to support the early and effective implementation of the Darfur Peace Agreement, that UNMIS' mandate shall be expanded as specified in paragraphs 8, 9 and 12 below, that it shall deploy to Darfur, and therefore invites the consent of the Government of National Unity for this deployment, and urges Member States to provide the capability for an expeditious deployment...

Note the "invites".

Meanwhile, Khartoum wants the existing African Union force out.

Where, oh where, can the NDP be?

1) Kofi is unhappy with Khartoum's attitude. Pity he is so much milder with Tehran.

2) The NDP apparently wants Canada to invade the Sudan:

The resolution that delegates will be asked to vote on calls for the troops to be withdrawn [from Afstan] and an increase in Canada’s commitment to Darfur, in the Sudan.

Upperdate: Moreover, it's all a UN conspiracy led by the US; what does Jack think of that? Can't we even trust Turtle Bay any more?

A senior Sudanese lawmaker on Tuesday accused Kofi Annan, the secretary general of the United Nations, of spearheading a conspiracy against the African country over a plan to deploy UN peacekeepers in the war-torn Darfur region. The United States is leading the conspiracy, which "began as a political campaign in the UN and is now taking the form of a military intervention," Ismail Haj Mussa, a senior member of the Sudanese Parliament, told Radio Omdurman, a state-run station. The United Nations has been trying to persuade Sudan to allow the world body to take over an African Union peacekeeping force that has been unable to stop the violence in Darfur. But President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan has repeatedly rejected the proposal, saying that it would violate the country's sovereignty. He has warned that his army would fight any UN forces sent to Darfur [my emphasis - MC]...
