Flash: Duceppe doesn't want Québécois dying in Afstan

BQ leader wants to start the combat bug out. I mean, Van Doos are already there and many more are going next fall.

Duceppe threatens to topple Harper government over Afghanistan

Rather à l'allemand, what?

Will Liberals under Dion support a no-confidence motion on Afstan policy? Surely Taliban Jack and the Darfur Dippers would have to vote for it.

Update: chuckercanuck waxes:

There will never be enough reconstruction to satisfy the opposition. We could build Picadilly Circus in the heart of Kandahar, a Hyundai dealership on every block and the most efficient carbon trading market in the world and they will still clammer for more reconstruction. Because reconstruction is code-word for retreat; we cannot reconstruct while sniped, mortared and road-side bombed. They know that. They know too, that the Taliban, seeing Canadian forces digging wells and irrigation channels won't tear up and say, "gosh, those Canadians. We had them all wrong." So, if they are offering a false solution, its because its not the real solution they have in mind. Cut and run, indeed...

Upperdate: More from British Foreign Office minister Kim Howells [bottom of post]:

'Get real' about terror, Dion told: British minister blasts Afghan withdrawal plan, says NATO needs to see it through...

Mr. Howells, the minister responsible for Afghanistan, dismissed Mr. Dion's proposition that he would try to negotiate an early end to Canada's commitment of troops to the mission.

Mr. Dion told the Citizen in an interview last month that Canada should negotiate the withdrawal of its troops "with honour" from Afghanistan before the expiry of the government's commitment in 2009 because the mission is not working.

"I'm not sure what withdrawing with honour would mean from Afghanistan quite frankly," Mr. Howells said after giving a speech at Foreign Affairs headquarters in Ottawa.

"It seems to me the most honourable course would be to see that fight through," he added. "Because, believe me, al-Qaeda won't withdraw with honour, they'll move into any vacuum that's left."..
