Robertson endorses Rudy

This bombshell makes me think much more highly of...McCain, Thompson, Romney and pretty much everyone else running for the GOP presidential nomination. (Yes, even Paul.)

John J. Miller says this shows how important defense issues have become for the religious right:

...for many, the war on Islamofascism has a religious dimension. That's not to say they want to embark upon a new crusade against Arab states, but that they stand against the jihadist persecution of Christians and Jews, support the existence of Israel, and endorse principles of religious freedom that are sadly lacking in most of the Middle East. Many secular Republicans believe that Giuliani is the best anti-terror, national-security presidential candidate. That some Evangelicals agree with them, and are willing to forgive differences on domestic matters, is less of a shock than it may seem at first.

I feel the same way about Israel and the war against extremist Islam, albeit on secular grounds. But I also remember how Robertson (and the late Jerry Falwell) responded to 9/11. If he'd said America brought the attacks upon itself through its foreign policy, would Rudy be willing to share a podium with him?

Damian P.

Update: Tammy Bruce isn't happy, either. John Podhoretz, who believes this endorsement will turn away as many Republicans as it will attract, wonders if Robertson is trying to make up for his post-9/11 comments.
