There's still a lot of 2008 to go...
...but my "Britney will pull herself out of her tailspin this year" prediction isn't looking too good right now. Looks like her lawyers got out just in time. (You're paying at least some attention to this. Admit it.)
Also, a Clinton-Obama ticket? What was I thinking? This is why I have no right to make fun of Garth Turner, whose predictions are at least guaranteed to come true eventually...

Update: commenter Bruce Rheinstein says Britney Spears is the ideal client:
...She's stinking rich and generates numerous legal issues. She could do for a family & criminal law firm what IBM did for Cravath, Swain & Moore back in the 60s. And it's not as though she doesn't need good legal representation, even if she doesn't have the good sense to follow her lawyers' advice.
Even if she's still rich, that doesn't mean she'll pay her legal bills on time. In any event, some clients are so troublesome that a massive legal fee just isn't worth the aggravation. I'm sure someone else will take on Britney's case - assuming she can be bothered to get a new lawyer - but he/she will want a huge retainer before getting involved.
Here's a timeline of Spears's meltdown. (It's in OK!, so you know it's 100% true.)
