Naftagate?

Lord love a duck. Canadian commentators' knickers are twisted six ways to Sunday--see "Naftagate" here from "At Issue" on CBC's "The National".

I invite any evidence that the matter will receive any significant further US media coverage. But Canadians are so self-obsessed that they still see the thing as a big deal. Shame on Andrew Coyne for not stating the simple reality that in the US the issue is dead meat. Grow up, Canadians.

It's all (maybe) about Florida and Michigan.

Update: Jane "Giggles" Taber goes over the moon (full text payers only):

[...]

Hot: NDP leader Jack Layton hit it out of the park this week with his tenacious questioning of the Prime Minister over the NAFTA-leak controversy. As a result, Mr. Layton has been all over the American news over the past five days. He's been on CNN and quoted by the Associated Press, The New York Times, Radio France International, Chicago Sun-Times, Baltimore Sun, MSNBC and Agence France-Presse...Mr. Layton's staff has documented his media success, calling the exercise: "Operation American Spirit."..

Holy socialist! The anti-American Dippers are thrilled to bits that the US media has (barely) noticed them. What puerile, pathetic, pleasure. See, Jane! The big boys are paying me some attention! But on PBS' The McLaughlin Group last night--all about presidential politics--Canada was not mentioned once. Not once. The party's over, Jack. There's a new monster haunting the campaign trail and it's not Canada. Hell, we're not even in the kitchen sink.

Meanwhile, in the midst of our puditocracy's near-hysteria, there are a couple of sensible pieces:

Common sense leaking like a sieve [Peter Worthington]

Truth has been lost in the storm [Thomas Walkom, gasp!]

Upperdate: It's all the result of a "global"--now that's really, really vast--right-wing conspiracy, with Conrad Black the puppet master. Honest. God bless the Grauniad.
