Damian adds: there used to be an Air Canada billboard near Halifax airport boasting about being voted the best airline in North America. The mind boggles...

Of course, I've heard no end of horror stories about U.S. airlines, too. (My one return trip on American Airlines, from Halifax to LaGuardia last summer, was okay.) Give me WestJet any day - or, even better, easyJet, which got me from Edinburgh to Gatwick for the price of a bucket of KFC.
