Of course, there are substantive taxes on food hidden in the wholesale cost - import duties, corporate taxes and the like, imposed by rapacious government greed. Want to assist the poor and middle classes with lower food costs? Put an end to "corporate taxes" on producers, distributors and sellers. Every penny of tax they pay is buried in the price at check-out.
