Brett's a Jet
Thank God this soap opera is finally over:
Brett Favre's time in Green Bay is over but he will be writing a new chapter to his career with the New York Jets. Both the Jets and the Green Bay Packers confirmed late Wednesday night that the veteran quarterback has been dealt to New York. While the compensation the Packers will get from New York is not officially known, ESPN is reporting it will be a fourth-round draft pick that will increase in value depending on how the Jets do in 2008.
The NFL Network adds that the fourth-round pick will become a third-round pick if Favre takes 50 percent of total snaps with the Jets this coming season. If he gets 70 percent and the Jets make the playoffs, the pick becomes a second-round pick. If Favre he takes 80 percent of the snaps and the Jets get to the Super Bowl, it would become a first-round pick.
There are also reports that the Jets have released quarterback Chad Pennington.
Many assumed Favre would go to Tampa Bay, but the Bucs already have about 35 quarterbacks on their roster. Favre will be a great mentor for Kellen Clemens - though Aaron Rodgers might have something to say about that - and the perennially underappreciated Chad Pennington will go to a team that desperately needs a solid, experienced quarterback. Ahem.
