Good question

Gene at Harry's Place, in response to Daily Telegraph blogger Sean Rayment, who criticizes Israel (a state "addicted to violence") for its "disproportionate" response to Hamas:

...there’s that lovely word again: disproportionate. Would you be satisfied if Israel responded by launching a barrage of more-or-less random rocket and mortar fire at neighborhoods in Gaza? That, after all, would be a 'proportionate' response.

(Gene also links to this excellent piece from a left-leaning Ha'aretz columnist, responding to standard "anti-Zionist" arguments.)

Hamas claims the death toll in Gaza now stands at 225, including "at least" 15 non-combatants. But Rayment, unfortunately, will not be the only "anti-Zionist" commentator to deem all the Palestinian victims "civilians."
