We cannot say for sure why Major Malik Nadal Hasan carried out his shooting rampage in Fort Hood. (If he really did yell "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire, that gives us a pretty good idea as to his motives - but this kind of thing is why the 72-hour rule was invented.)
