Comments: The GOP, gays, and "ideological schizophrenia"
Comment by Ran:

"If the party wasn't so publicly hostile to gays" SIC!!! Defend that comment, Damian.

Publicly hostile? Who, then? When? Please, just one frickin' example of "Republican" "public hostility" to a gay person on said basis will do. Any example from the last *25 years* will do.

My point being, the old days of the GOP being the party of homophobia, sexism, racism, bigotry and "the rich" ended before Reagan got there. He stomped out the last dregs from party centrality.

This affair isn't about a man being gay, damn it! It's about solicitation of sex with strangers on public property. THAT is a scandal, regardless of the man's orientation.

All this, while Hillary is found having her photo taken with [and accepting "bundled" donations from!] a wanted felon. You want real scandal?

"If the party wasn't so publicly hostile to gays..."

Ken Mehlman, who was campaign manager for President Bush's 2004 reelection campaign and Republican Natonal Committee Chairman from 2005-07, is openly gay.

Mary Cheney, the Vice President's daughter who makes no secret of being a lesbian, was an official in the Bush-Cheney campaign. (The Kerry campaign publicized her sexual orientation in an effort to depress Republican turn-out).

During the Reagan administration, Ted Graber and Archie Case were the first openly gay couple to spend a night together in the White House.

Jim Kolbe was openly gay and served as a Republican in Congress from 1985-2007.

Certainly there are constituencies and politicians in the party who are anti-gay, but I wouldn't apply the label to the party as a whole.

America certainly does obsess over the sexual peccadilloes of it's public figures. As the first post here says, Hillary Clinton's scandals have taken a back seat to this dirty little tale.

So, fine Craig $500 for this toilet stall caper, and let him carry on. He'll surely get the boot from his constituents next election anyway, and, deserves to, just for the sheer stupidity of it.

Not pandering to the radical gay agenda is hardly "so publicly hostile to gays..."

It is the lack of any principles on the liberals' part on any issue that is the downfall of the European (and, by extension, Canadian) experiment. Sucking up to the latest "progressive" fad, be it gay "marriage" or Communism, has caused untold misery across history, saved time and again only by the assertion of moral and human right.

What I find so bizarre is that these well paid bozos
resort to exposing themselves (heh...) to public ridicule by consorting in Public Washrooms.
"You don't know me but I couldn't help admiring your cock."
Ewwww!

Here's an example: The Texas Republican Party has repeatedly refused to allow the Log Cabin Republicans (a group for Republican gays) to set up a booth at the state Republican convention, even though they went through the proper application process and even though many, many other conservative groups get booths. This has happened as recently as 2004 - I can't find any info about the 2006 convention.
