I'm pretty sure I mentioned buying GOLD a short while ago...[External Link]

It's still not too late.
Big Hairy deal ... when I was a kid the $1cdn was $1.10us......
It didn't help anyone then and it won't now!
Aside from giving some people something new to bitch about it's meaningless.
Of course that ranch in Texas is looking little more affordable........
Mazda MX-5 (base model, same car).
U.S. price (in Canadian dollars): $21,191
Canadian price (duty subtracted): $26,480
Difference: $5,289
Thanks Mazda, I think I'll take a pass.
The difference for the MINI Cooper S is $6,983 (adjusted to Canadian currency and Canadian import duty subtracted).
I'm headin' to the Plattsburg Mall! And this, even if it take 5 hours to cross at Lacolle!
Posted at 2007-09-21 08:02:09 [PermaLink]I could be wrong here but should we be getting all giddy when the $C. is up RELATIVE to the $US which is tanking? Let's not forget, folks, that the US importers pay for Can. goods in US dollars...and in a lot of cases will delay paying for 30-60-90 days. Personally, if I was a Canadian exporter, I'd be crapping my Stanfields.
(Chavez is probably rofl. What're the odds he'll take credit, at home, for this debacle?)

Oh that dollar magic! Just filled up at an Esso station. However, just as i was about to start pumping gas the clerk hailed me on the loudspeaker and told me to wait a minute.
She was just about to lower the price of a litre.....by ONE cent...and wanted me to take advantage of the reduction!
And it's so wierd! You pass by the same gas stations everyday and the prices always change, yet this was the first time I was actually at a gas station when that was done.
A penny is a penny, and when you buy 50 litres it saves you 50¢...not a fortune, but enough, granted, to pay for a call at a public phone!

Posted at 2007-09-21 13:25:34 [PermaLink]In my wife's business, the problem is that distributors don't change their price structure that quickly. The distributors are capturing the increased profits from the currency valuation, and the retailers are getting blamed for the high prices relative to the US.

Wouldn't you rather spend your new found wealth in sunny Florida [External Link]?
Well, if the Canadian dollar stays at par for too long, people won't be lining up at the border for shopping excursions, they will be lining up for their EI cheques. Why, you ask? The majority of our products and services that we export are epxorted to the U.S. The cost of those have increased as a result of an increased dollar. That reduces what they wioll buy from us. And, given that our dollar's rise is actually a reflection of the U.S. dollar's slide, and not because of inherent economic factors that would support such a valuation, this means a real risk of recession in the U.S. If that happens, we are gonna be F******.
