Comments: No enemies on the left (or in the Iranian government)
Comment by terrence:

"we wouldn't want to see this gentleman "vilified," now, would we?" Of course not; that is reserved for George Bush, EEEVIIIL, George Bush. This Iranian gentleman is just that - a gentleman. He may have different views then many Americans; but we must be respectful of him. It is George Bush who MUST be vilified.

The position of the Columbia Coalition against the war does not surprise me. Like many left-wing organizations, they talk out of both sides of their mouth. It's ok for them to speak out against the US and Israel, but they dare not speak out against Iran. Maybe they should move there and live under Ahmadinejad since they like Iran so much.

Comment by Muslims Against Sharia:

Muslims Against Sharia condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the decision of Columbia University to provide a speaking venue for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Apparently letting Akbar Rafsanjani speak at the National Cathedral was not the height of American Dhimmitude, because providing a venue for the world's foremost anti-Semite, whose proclaimed goal is the destruction of the USA and Israel, definitely takes the cake. What is surprising is that we don't hear any complaints from Columbia alumni who should be ashamed of their silence.

Comment by Joseph Hayyim:

First off, welcome aboard MAS! Well said. We'll look forward to lively disagreements and challenging agreements from you. Please feel free to tell us a bit about yourself, by way of introduction.

"We fear the demonization of Ahmadinejad, because we think this demonization contributes to the [sic-!!] likelihood of war."

Iran has been at war with us and the West for 30 years.

For the record, I'm with eeeevil Neo-Con Ledeen on this: Iran can solve its own problem better if we encourage its dissidents into revolt. (It would be PERFECT if a student led revolt topples the regime in Teheran while Ach-mad-denijad gets stroked at Columbia.) That, however, would take real cujones from State and the Administration.
