Uppity; that's the word for the Riding Association, 'uppity'. They weren't supposed to buck the boss. Very embarrassing. ;)

He voted against the government in a confidence budget vote?!? He actively tried to bring down his party. Why should he be allowed to remain in a party in which he has demonstrated a lack of confidence?

I completely support the riding association to put forward the candidate they choose.
Harper should relent and put Casey in the furthest of the back benches after he is reelected.

I support Mr. Harper on this issue.

If the CPC cannot get a majority without Mr. Casey it is in a sorry state. The local riding association can support whoever they want. Just as Mr. Harper doesn't have to sign his papers.

I completely support Harper on this issue. What it boils down to is an issue of trust. Casey cannot be trusted - he knew that his actions were a direct attack on his own party and the government of Canada but he figured he'd score some brownie points with the locals. Gee... sounds kind of Garth Turner-esque.

We have a party system for a reason... you can either embrace it or get a day job. Either way... I wouldn't let him within shouting distance of caucus unless he acknowledged that voting against his own party was the wrong thing to do.

If you do a Google News search for Casey and see all the small-town local N.S. papers blowing air kisses toward Casey, you may understand why he's doing what he's doing. People love a rebel, with a credible cause or otherwise.

Comment by Ian in NS:

I'm with Harper, but then I'm an advocate of a tough-love approach to all the provinces addicted to the equalization dole, which is what the offshore deal really comes down to - NF & NS want to have their cake & eat it too, Harper's saying "Oh no you don't." I'm actually not that keen on what he worked out with Rodney Mac, but that may be my own opinion on Rodney colouring my views (I think the man's a putz who has no business running a corner grocery store, let alone the province).

John Reynolds said it best: if you vote against your own government's budget, don't expect to be welcomed in caucus any time soon.

"Can the Prime Minister afford to write off Nova Scotia?"

You betcha. And the Banana Republic Of Danny as well.

As I said before ---- 3 seats in NS + 3 in Dannyland.

I hate to say this but ----Big Deal !

Frankly if PMSH was the cold calculating type he is accused of being he would write off the whole area and campaign AGAINST it in Ontario and elsewhere by describing how EVERYONE ELSE is defacto funding the Maritimes even as they rake in windfalls from the Energy Sector.

The more I hear of Maritime whining(aka the Danny effect) the more I begin to want the whole Equalization Process to be completely disbanded. Let the Maritimes fund itself for a while. You know just for a change of pace.

My guess is that after a few years of that regimen, 'cooler heads' might well prevail in certain sectors.
