You know that for the most part the European members of NATO were only in it because the treaty offered them a measure of security from the USSR.
In other words a continuation of the AMERICAN provided defense and security paid for by the US taxpayer. Canada may be a sincere partner in the shared interest concept .... but the Euros never intended to pony up.
France as you well know even pulled out so they could sell weapons and technology to our enemies and violate international nuclear agreements without answering to their supposed allies.
Expecting loyalty and support from these nations is just plain foolish.
That's why we see the lame response to these international crisis!
Selling weapons for money is always more important than putting your own troops on the line.
