Coren is a stupid idiot, but I defend his right to be so.

Posted at 2007-12-17 08:29:08 [PermaLink]Steyn and his supporters are using this as an opportunity to expose to the public the true nature of the obscene inquisition that is the so-called Human Rights Commission -- which ironically is itself the greatest threat to human rights and freedoms in this country.
Any one of us, at any time, could be hauled before this kangaroo court and slapped with a punishing fine for speaking, writing or following our consciences. The HRC is designed to silence and intimidate dissenting voices. It must be fought.
I'm with Ellie.
Ellie: There's a joke down here South o' 49 known as Quinn's Law. "That every liberal institution or law produces exactly the opposite of its stated intention." The humor lies in its uncanny accuracy, of course. Thus, under Quinn's Law, a "Human Rights Commission" can only produce a trampling of individual rights.
Likewise, I point out the unintended consequences when my mates at shul talk about "hate crimes" legislation as a way to respond to anti-Semitism.
Update:
Hewitt's getting on board with a boycott against Canada-bound tourism. It isn't going to shift the balance of trade, but it may shift the balance of opinion.

"That every liberal institution or law produces exactly the opposite of its stated intention."
Which is exactly why I break out in goosebumps when they talk about Peace, Justice and Tolerance.
Here is a good column in today's National Post (Dec. 18) by Ezra Levant on this topic. I hope Mark, Joseph or Damian pick it up with some comments.
