Canadian auto workers sure love to complain about the 'japs' taking over market share..here's a thought..build a better car!
The last GM product i bought, ten years ago, went through 2 transmissions in 8 months, and had an electrical gremlin from day one.
This year, i bought a Mazda 3 sport, and could not be happier. What a car!
If the Canadian auto industry was serious, they would recruit/bribe all the engineers and designers they could find from asian schools and bring them here..as long as legacy costs far outstrip R&D, there will always be a problem..
The only problem for Mazda is Ford. Does Ford own 33 or 49% of Mazda? With Ford on death's bed they won't be able to invest much in Mazda. The question is, will Ford drag Mazda down?

This should make you happy then. We bought a Mazda3 four years ago and now have just over 100,000 km. on it. The car has been flawless thus far.
Ferrethouse: Although Ford owns roughly one third of Mazda, I belive they are run independently with respect to product investment and product development. Since Ford also owns Volvo, the various brands have co-operated in developing auto platforms - specifically the Mazda3, Ford Focus (Euro version) and Volvo S40. FWIW - Ford's European operation is reportedly profitable. The big question is why their N. American operation doesn't use more of the Euro designs (see the new Mondeo which is absolutely beautiful).
Not every Mazda is imported. The Mazda6 is manufactured in Flat Rock, Michigan, along with the Ford Mustang.
