Mike Judge seems to have a knack for this - directing movies that tank at the box office and become huge hits on the home video market - first "Office Space", now this. Perhaps he should direct a straight-to-DVD feature next, and see how that goes. Could be a more profitable venture w/o the box office pressures.

The film was good in parts. Some of the visuals, though, particularly the spelling (eg, "Uhmericans"), didn't work. Such spelling is normally used by people *mocking* the less intelligent--not by the latter.

Great candy, though. My favourite part was the IQ test: "If you have one bucket that holds seven gallons, and one bucket that holds five gallons, how many buckets do you have?"

My only surprise is that conservatives would like this film. It does seem to me to combine some of the snarkier elements of a leftist critique of the Red States.

I rented this movie expecting biting wit and satire.

Instead, as with so many films, the trailer held all the good parts. Maybe it's that Luke Wilson can't carry a film, but I thought it was a great idea that was terribly executed.

The first ten minutes were actually reasonably amusing. Unfortunately, after that, it petered out into a lame, unfunny and drawn-out spectacle. Too bad. Office Space was amazing, so maybe I was expecting too much.

For more along this line of thought (about those who lack it), read Cyril Kornbluth's story "The Marching Morons".
