Comments: The Felton follies
Comment by Ellie in T.O.:

In response to your original post, Damian, Felton himself wrote: "Let me assure you that I look forward to a debate."

So do I, Greg. I hope it's YouTubed.

Comment by Steve:

How about inviting Mark Steyn to read his book, now that would be a daring and bold thing to do.

Comment by Dara:

People need to stop whinging as if there is actual discrimination going on against right wingers.

Yes Mark Steyn should be there, if he has the time to rip this idiot a new one. He doesn't need to bring a book though, they have 22 copies of his latest in circulation. I hardly see how picking a book off a shelf in a library and proceeding to read it comes anywhere near "brave and daring".

If only the library would stock books on Islamic terrorism...

Oh, nevermind. I guess that line of argument is hypothetical bullshit.

Tsk, Dara, it's "ANTI-Islamic activity" now! Didn't you get the memo?

Ellie,

The British government have a long history of calling terrorism by another name when it suits them, why would it stop now and why would I care?

Obviously, the library doesn't either. They have books on Islamic 'terrorism', and jihad, and the parakeets of southern Brazil. There is no evidence to support yet another mindless example of people on this blog saying "well if the shoe were on the other foot, those lefties would sing a different tune" with absolutely no evidence or even the slightest effort to obtain it.

Well, at least you remembered to put in the scare quotes this time, Dara. Your masters won't have to pack you off to Sensitivity Re-education Camp just yet...

Comment by Dara:

Ellie,

They're not scare quotes, that's the exact word that returned results in one of the searches I posted, just illustrating that any hesitancy to use that word is for the most part fictional and that there is nothing to suggest that libraries would shy away from it.

The conversation here has strayed somewhat; there's a world of difference between carrying Felton's words on a bookshelf, and presenting him as a showpiece for literacy. It's not even being done in a debate format. There are scads of up and coming West Coast authors who could really benefit from greater exposure, why not give THEM the opportunity.
Actually, after seeing the photo of Paul Whitney, it all became crystal clear...
As for Felton's thesis, this [External Link]
speaks volumes. Mr. Whitney, for a librarian, you pick strange bedfellows!

Just came across this gem over at Dhimmiwatch:

" Where they burn books, so too will they in the end burn human beings. (Dort, wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen.)

Did this gentleman Heinrich Heine have it pegged or what?! Look at the dates.

Having Steyn in person reading that book, would be brave and daring for that library it appears, especially if Steyn's appearance would provoke demonstrations from the usual suspects.

By the way Dara,
In my first comment, I was being a bit sarky when I used the term
'brave and daring' if Steyn had been invited to read I can imagine the howls from the usual suspects or can you imagine if Hirsi Ali had been invited to read from her book and the protests.! the list can go on, where the library would not have invited certain authors in order " protect the safety of our patrons'

"if Steyn had been invited to read I can *imagine* the howls from the usual suspects or can you *imagine* if Hirsi Ali had been invited to read from her book and the protests.!"

But that's my point exactly, it's just your imagination and you have no evidence to back it up, just a general hunch that the "usual suspects" would come out of the woodwork.

Comment by Greg Felton:

To suggest that Asper Empire bottomfeeders like Steyn are denied free expression is laughable. Any anti-Muslim frother can spout whatever invective he wants and get published in a respectable "nyoozpaper."

To state, with copious proof, that Israel is an apartheid, genocidal fascist empire somehow causes the likes of you to soil your undersilks in unison, and whine about "fairness"

None of you asks that Muslims be called to "balance" the likes of Christopher Hitchens, who approves of the mass murder of Muslims.

The feint of demanding a ziothug like Steyn be called to "balance" me is like inviting a phrenologist to "balance" a forensic scientist.

Steyn is a shill for Israel and The Lobby and as such is not competent to "balance" anybody.
