I often observed this when debating defenders of the two Lancet studies dealing with Iraqi deaths post regime change. It was apparent that some of these people desperately wanted (and still want) the utterly ridiculous million-plus death toll now extrapolated by Les Roberts and the Lancet crew to be true. They desire that number to be accurate because of its tremendous condemnatory value against the United States, and the Bush administration in particular.
