Right on!!!!!

We are the chosen people. That these characters think they have some claim to this territory sickens me. Why don't Canada stand up for "A Jewish State for Jewish People"? Since Northern Ireland, "A Protestant State for Protestant People" went down, to the outrageous demands of the terrorists, we are the only ones left. Remember- Israel was created as "A Loyal Jewish Ulster". It has proved itself loyal to Western Civilization, but Western Civilization hasn't been loyal to it.

The affinity is not all that surprising, even without The Great Satan as a common enemy.

"...the universalism and humanism at the heart of the left's view of itself has evaporated"

That was also the medieval Church's view of itself. The left has always voted for strict authoritarianism when push came to shove, but it is striking how reactionary it has become in recent years as well. Anti-growth, anti-urban, anti-people, autarchy, anti-development, anti-technology, zero-sum ecology, anti-trade, etc. and a circling of the wagons to protect social entitlements no matter how abused or economically disastrous. There is little evidence they have any belief in material progress at all anymore, or even work. Gone are the days when the socialist dream was reflected in concrete images of happy nuclear families and real people driving tractors or cutting sugar cane, etc. Now, to the extent that they dream at all rather than just carp and whine, it seems to be about some kind of gooey sexually inclusive, environmentally-friendly, self-reliant commune. Even on sexual morality issues it doesn't take much for most of the left to bury stark differences in the cause of protecting "indigenous cultures", especially those that are far away from them. I think they vaguely imagine the Islamists are fighting for much the same thing, which makes them useful idiots indeed. When was the last time you heard anybody on the left expressing admiration for Israelis for making the desert bloom, as they used to in large numbers?

What would the pioneers who marched for land reform and electrification make of the likes of David Suzuki?

"the pioneers who marched for land reform and electrification"...it's interesting to note that big hydroelectric dam projects were the pride of both the American New Deal and of Soviet Russia. By contrast, today's "progressives" regard dams as practically instruments of the devil...indeed, I recently read something in which an environmentalist put dams at the 9th circle of Hell.
