When the Ottawa franchise returns it just has to be called 'Rough Riders' right? As a life long Stampeder fan, I'm cheering for an eastern riders comeback.

Mark, here is a trivia test for greying, loyal Rough Rider fans. What famous play got them into the 1960 Grey Cup in the closing minutes of the Eastern Final? Who featured in it and why has it not been tried since?

What's the population of Halifax? And surrounding areas? What's Ottawa? Corporate sponsors?

Would this answer why Halifax has no franchise, but Ottawa gets another swing?

Peter: What I remember is Bobby Simpson in bounds on the side-line (not joining the huddle) and, uncovered, catching the touchdown pass. That's from memory. The play--the "sleeper play" was then banned.

The sleeper play was around at least until the mid sixties. I remember the Leo Cahill using it with the Argos.

The CFL hasn't been the same since they allowed blocking on punt returns :-)

Pretty impressive for a kid living in Concord MA, Mark. But if memory serves, Simpson didn't actually score. He was a big guy and waddled to about the ten yard line. They got it in a play or two later.

The other reason the play worked was that spectators were allowed to stand right up to the sideline and Simpson was able to lie down and blend in with the crowd. Remember the famous Grey Cup "Spectator Trip Play"?

Peter: Am from Ottawa, just in Mass. for a year. Saw the film of the play later.
