OH, PLEASE, NO. Not Condi. Your analysis is fine, Damian.
Better: Michael Steel, Bob Barr or Fred Thompson.
Although the idea of a black woman as a running mate might appeal to some as a win-win, in this case Rice would not benefit McCain. He's already being branded as Bush-lite.

Posted at 2008-04-07 06:16:48 [PermaLink]I like Condi Rice on a personal level, but what John McCain needs is a running mate with solid conservative credentials and who is strong on the social conservative end.
Posted at 2008-04-07 09:18:07 [PermaLink]This is not a new idea for Dr. Rice to be on the ticket, it has been mentioned numerous times. However Dr. Rice has unequivocally stated her firm intentions to return to academia when the Presidents term is over in Jan.2009.
Posted at 2008-04-07 11:01:18 [PermaLink]The battleground isn't on the right, so finding someone "who is strong on the social conservative end" doesn't buy McCain anything. It's in the middle with the independents. Rice would provide cover for a lot of people who don't feel comfortable with Obama, and that could include a lot of Clinton Democrats. Obviously I’d prefer Fred Thompson, but, more than that, I’d prefer to win, and she brings far more to the ticket.
Posted at 2008-04-07 11:12:01 [PermaLink]J.C. Watts would be a better option. Too bad he's not from ohio or Pa.
Posted at 2008-04-07 17:11:25 [PermaLink]As usual, Bruce... we disagree. That you're probably right is the bothersome element.
Please Gord: From your keyboard to G*d's screen. Even better, Mr. Watts makes a great follow-up as a presidential candidate. Or Bobby Jindal. Or Bob Barr.
Who woudn't want the sexiest woman in the world as a "running mate"? Geeez, it's a no-brainer.
