I agree. I've had deep misgivings about Canada's ability to handle large cases ever since Air India and, more recently, the big Vancouver murder trial (sorry, I forget the accused's name). Interminable delays, ass-covering, a general impression of lack of competence and at the end a very weak sense that any justice has been done. Why is it that Canadian justice seems to work very well on the small scale, but on the large scale it just seems to crumble?

This case was a dog's breakfast and smelled noxious from the get-go. Charging 18 accused and have the number widdled down to 11 (before even half have made it to trial) speaks to the general competence of our national law enforcement agencies. In plain speak, when jihad comes to Tim Horton's - CSIS and the RCMP have proven they are up to the task - until then, we are on our own.

Clearly, the police knew what they were doing.

The police, on a regular basis will charge people to keep them in jail for a while even if their case stinks.

I'm sure you have read the reports on the wiretaps that have been leaked about the muslims talking about blowing shit up and cuttin' off heads.

Trust me, muslims will be found guilty but whether or not the judge hands out a just sentence is doubtful.

The Liberals appointed soft judges and this will be no different. In the USA they would have got life without parole but here in Canada they will probably get 3-5 years.

It would of been so much easier if the 18 were wearing military fatigues and brandishing weapons when the police raided their homes, but alas so much for wishful thinking.

Comment by Brian from Toronto:

We should recall the accused had 3 tons of fertilizer in storage. This means:

(a) They had a lot of potted plants in their apartments.

(b) They intended to construct truck bombs to take down some buildings.

(c) Who knows - that's why (eventually, I hope) we'll have a trial...
