What is the option, Putting a few more billion $$ into something that has never got off the ground and likely never will?? As for the Brazilian aircraft maybe a few more billions to to the bottomless pit of Bombardiar??
Posted at 2008-05-19 20:59:12 [PermaLink]The Maple and the CANDU are entirely different reactors. The MAPLE was a special purpose reactor for isotope production. The CANDU is a power reactor, and versions of it have been operating for over 40 years. Eighteen are currently operating in Canada and there are others running successfully in Argentina, Romania, South Korea and China. The new CANDU is an evolutionary step forward from the present design and will be just as successful.
Posted at 2008-05-19 21:32:54 [PermaLink]I think the point being made, Tedh, is that the CANDU has ended up in some very suspect places, and at huge cost to the Canadian Taxpayer. If we follow Can. Rev.'s policy of 'if it has no prospect of making a profit than it isn't a business, it's a hobby', (and a verrrry expensive one) than what's the point of our building them? Except for domestic use of course...
