Haven't we already got such legislation from around 1974? Marc Lalonde introduced it to keep out the WFL.

Damian, I assume you live in Newfoundland, so would it be more likely for you to go to a NFL game in Boston or New York vice going to Buffalo or Toronto. In the end what advantage to you or other Canadian NFL fans to have a team in TO? Will it make you more proud to have a "Canadian" team in the NFL? Will it be worth the demise of our own professional league to satisfy the ego of a couple of billionares in Toronto? Will it be worth the potential demise of the CIS Football program? Because with no CFL there is likely no reason for minor, High School, University and Junior Football to exist in Canada because 99.9998% of kids playing in Canada know that they have no chance of cracking an NFL team. Without a homegrown league that they feel they have a legitiment shot at playing in a lot of kids will think why bother. There are lots of unintendided consequences if this experiment succeeds in getting a team in Canada. I just cannot see the positives of getting one (and there will only ever be 1) NFL team here.
Posted at 2008-06-13 18:22:18 [PermaLink]The better solution is to just kick Toronto out of Canada. They already have an American baseball team and an American basketball team. Let them have an American football team as well and then show them the door. Their only real claim to being a Canadian city is their hockey team and that claim is somewhat dubious.
Posted at 2008-06-13 22:15:38 [PermaLink]A few years ago I attended a Bills game with my uncle, who is a resident of Burlington, Ont. The tickets were IIRC $55 each and the parking was either free or very cheap. Now picture the Bills moving to T.O. Tickets for $55? Hee hee hee ha ha ha. Parking? Try $20 for starters. Just getting to the game in downtown Hogtown would be tougher than driving to Buffalo even including the border crossing. What I am saying is that NFL fans in the T.O.-Hamilton-Niagara area stand to LOSE if the team moves to T.O. Seriously.
