You've got to give her points for showing up and sharing a pint, or two.

So, how was the tummy rub?

The problem with Zerb and a lot of MSM lifers is that they are eager to recover a collective reputation for credibility bloggers presently enjoy.

What they don't appreciate is the marketplace at work: Readers and viewers are selecting for reliability and comprehensiveness. Processed-forest and unidirectional media are facing ecological adjustment as their market share drops.

The thing about blogs is that BS can be called immediately: If a blogger goes awry, he/she/it will be fisked and ignored. Cred is everything. When you're making your living selling ads, *style* is the content, reality be damned. Hence the conspirazoid crap, f'rinstance.

Blogs and the internet have restored critical thinking and feedback to the news delivery process. If the MSM are eager to survive, I'd suggest they take note before their advertisers seek alternative means to connect with consumers.

"Zerb concludes that we bloggers are "eager for recognition from the old media they sneer at"

Antonia assumes the motivation for this recognition-seeking is all ego. She fails to realize that most prominent bloggers look to acquire profile and recognition as a means to more effectively attack the bias and inaccuracy that so infects the " old media." The bigger the audience, the greater the " ouch factor " when a mainstream media journalist takes it on the chin from a blogger.

I suspect that's why many bloggers got into this racket in the first place; Letters to the Editor just weren't cutting it.......

I'm not sure that I agree with you entirely, PK. I READ the news largely for the local content (local adverts same deal), I WATCH the news for the pictorial content and sound bites, and I turn to the Internet for immediacy/discussion-opinion/interactivness. None of the latter conflict with the former. But you're certainly spot on with the trust issues.

BTW, yyjz6m, BAD TRY. (That you, Zerb? I hope not!)

The black box from PA was recovered. Complete with a horrifying last few minutes of cockpit voice data.

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. It's not at the MSM that bloggers sneer: It's the MSM's unfortunate compounding of of innacuracy with arrogance. The Toronto Star, for example, is earning a consumer rep: It is, in essence, branding itself. With each and every screw-up.

MSM's consumers are paying attention. How long they'll pay for BS is anyone's guess.

addendum: Good point, Dan... Yeah, there will be a place for the MSM. Perhaps they'll improve over time: No-one wants their butt publicly fact checked and slapped back in line.

Perhaps as well they'll more clearly distinguish reports from editorials.
