Dementia has set in. How do you become an 'activist' vis-a vis something you can't prove exists?....Oh wait! That's religion!!
Posted at 2005-09-12 05:55:02 [PermaLink]Heh heh Dan, good one. But no... Religion isn't activism. Activist can turn anything into a religion, however... i.e. "Intelligent" Design, Aminal "Rights" (Aminal, as in wabbits), Social "Justice", and UF!Os.

Posted at 2005-09-12 07:30:26 [PermaLink]Hellyer has been a serious wacko for quite some time. I guess this was only a matter of time.
Posted at 2005-09-12 08:53:22 [PermaLink]Hellyer’s eccentric, but harmless. Just be glad you don’t have one of these:

Have I failed to grasp some deeper insight? Is this commentary more than an apparent cheap laugh at a former major political figure whose more recent peculiar views have made him an easy target?
Posted at 2005-09-12 10:47:09 [PermaLink]Howard:
If this recent UFO fascination was the the only peculiar thing about Hellyer than I would leave well enough alone. Check his bio in the article, after bouncing between Liberal and Conservative parties he began his descent into irrelevency and parody in 1971 - that would be when he was about 48. I've been of the opinion he's a head case for many years - this UFO thing is minor in comparison.
BTW - while a Liberal, he was the Minister of defense who first started screwing up the armed forces when he forced the integration of the army, navy and air force. Here is a quote from Jack Granatstein:
"Defence Minister Paul Hellyer also ranks as one of the killers of the Canadian military. The idea of unification was not a bad one. The military should work together. However, Hellyer’s tactics were terrible: changing uniform and rank structures was not necessary to effect unification. Hellyer went too far and killed the Canadian military."

BTW - Hellyer officially opened Canada's (the world's?) first first UFO landing pad in ALberta in ---- 1967.

I had always wondered where the Reform party came from.
Dara; good one. (Credit where credit's due, eh?)
P.K; "But no... Religion isn't activism." You wanna give that a second think? What do you call 'proselytizing'?
Jews don't proselytize. Amish don't. Great Raft Buddhists don't. Not all religions proselytize, because religion isn't activism.
Yeah... the list of religious groups that do proselytize is enormous, but then again so is the list of any set of human organizations that feel the need to grow. Proselytization is a human function mostly independent of the group's raison d'etre (pardon my french).
So to answer your question: I call 'proselytizing'... 'obnoxious'.
UFOs in historic art--can you deny the evidence of your own eyes?

I pity those who are weak, proudly displaying their marks of shame... their own ignorance... for their days are numbered and their negativity assures their ending. I pity them, but only enough to occasionally enjoy watching their demise as they face their fears alone. They are a festering cancer within an evolving humanity which other weak minds tolerate, and I wonder where the true brave warriors are today - and then I witness those who DARE to change the world, who speak hidden truths without fear of the pittiful sheep of ridicule and their minions of shameful cowardice, and my heart grows fond for life's adventure once again. Today, in this particular moment, I am watching the death of the pathetic weak minds of olde, the cowards of earth, hiding in their bedroom bunkers with their greedy money and lustful technology, clutching to their last shreds of compassion and hope as they take in their last breaths and the new world unfolds before them against their will - because whether they agree with these changes or not, IT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW! Perhaps my own sense of being ever entertained by their deaths is indeed a dark act, but I cannot help myself, for they are so vast in number on this overpopulated world, and so meaningless in their misery, how could I not see their "loss" as our recovery? I do not judge them, for they have already judged themselves, and rightfully so. Let their track record be written here for ALL to witness... let their own words justify their own deaths, for that is what they have allowed to transpire by the will of own hands.
