Comments: WHY THE MOUNTIES RARELY GET THEIR WHITE-COLLAR PERSON
Comment by DaninVan:

Mark; you mean such competantly handled investigations and prosecutions like the JonBenet Ramsey case or the case(s) against Clinton? When you have Judges and Prosecutors as Elected officials, there's always the elements of job security and political aspirations colouring their judgement.
We're not perfect, but neither is their system.

DaninVan: US attorneys are not elected. They are federal justice department officials nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. Assistant US attorneys are public servants.

US attorneys sometimes go on to successful political careers, e.g. Rudy Giuliani.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about their District Attorneys. In the case of Clinton, I'm assuming that was a Federal Prosecutor, which doesn't excuse the balls up that was made of THAT case.

CIBC just paid around $2.5 billion in fines for helping Enron. Were they investigated or prosecuted in Canada? What about Nortel? Their lying and cheating probably hurt Canadians more than Enron hurt Americans. What repercussions did Nortel suffer in Canada? "Sorry. Won't happen again. We promise."

And what banks helped Nortel get away with this?
