Huh?!?
I appreciate the contribution Canadian troops made in Afghanistan in 2001-2002, and I welcome them back now. But the hysteria in these articles ("bring plenty of body bags") seems to confuse Afghanistan with the Sunni Triangle (or the Sunni Triangle of six months ago). There's a war on in Afghanistan, and it should be taken seriously as such, but there's hardly a bloodbath going on there.
In many ways, it seems that our choice to send troops to Afghanistan was meant to allow the United States to shift assets into the Iraqi theatre: an indirect contribution to their war effort.
All the same, it seems like there is some chance of developing an Afghanistan that is at least somewhat more stable and tolerable than it was under the Taliban. To do that, stability in Kabul needs to be maintained until the central government can reach some kind of arrangement with the warlords.
