Comments: Top 10 reasons the Marijuana Party of Canada didn't win any seats
Comment by jhuck:

Has anyone seen a map of Canada showing party colours for the election results? I've been looking everywhere but none of the media has a map with the ridings represented in the colour of the winning party. Every other election has used them. Where did they go?

Har dee har har.

But while all of you Conservatives savour your quasi-victory and get your gloating in, you might want to realize that the Liberals won 103 seats last night and that not all of us who voted for them are stoned or brain-damaged.

I disagree with your vote but I respect you for it. Why can't you do the same?

Does "all the stoners voted Liberal" necessarily imply that "all the Liberal voters are stoners?"

When you figure out elementary-school logic, c'mon back for a chat. If you pick up just a smidgeon of humour along the way, your life will be immeasurably easier as well.

Comment by an LLB to be:

Reason 11: A sizable portion of Canadians who support the MJ party's platform recognize that, at least until some form of proportional representation is adopted, voting for the pot decrimin/legalization party is a waste of a vote.

That's why I didn't cast my vote for them but instead voted for the Conservative candidate. See, no matter how regressive the Conservatives may make the drug laws (and one would hope they're not so stupid as to try to follow America's lead), it's not going to have any impact on the average Canadian's ability to go out and get chronic should they so desire. Or at least not any Canadians I know.

One could make the link between classical liberal/contemporary Conservative values (such as the idea that people should be free to do what they like so long as they don't harm other people) but I get the sense that to do so here would be a waste of time.

Because yeah, who says stereotyping can't be fun? Stupid stoner potheads. Bunch of lazy ne'er do wells! Go get a job!

No - not stoned or brain damaged - just timid.

Because I have a great deal of difficulty imagining how anyone could vote for a brokerage party like the Libranos. Political opponents I can respect; but political opportunists, ward heelers, bagmen, and the electors that enable them -- um, not so much.

LLB2B:

Whuzzamatter? A little social disapproval got you down? Thus perisheth classical liberalism, and individualism with it ;o)

Segacs: it's a *joke*.

LLB to be: actually, I *support* the decriminalization of marijuana. But after seeing the Marijuana Party website, I think the "stupid stoner potheads" stereotype is true, at least for that bunch.

I live in (or rather, a 5 min. drive from) the capital of Stonedom. Trust me, they voted Liberal.

DISTRICT: West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country
Candidate Party Vote Count Vote Share Elected
Blair Wilson LIB 23867 37.51% X
John Weston CON 22881 35.96%
Judith Wilson NDP 12766 20.06%
Silvaine Zimmermann GRN 3966 6.23%
Anne Jamieson ML 155 0.24%

The strange thing is, this was a Conservative riding under John Fraser,M.P....until he retired this election. Damn! I never end up with a Representative on the Government side. It's all Sari's fault...

Got to love the list. The Legalisation party here in the UK did equally as well...they had a cracking party political broadcast btw.
