Comment by John B:

So Louise Arbour has been on both the Supreme Court in Canada and the UN Commisssion for Human Rights. That's two strikes against.

Did anybody read that column by the president of PEN in today's Toronto Star? Ye gods, if I needed any proof that PEN is a nest of weasels this would be it. They'll normally defend just about anything in the name of free speech. But now they've suddenly discovered religious sensitivity...

PS: I realize I just blasphemed against polytheists with that "ye gods" remark. Uh oh. And come to think of it, I've egregiously insulted weasels too. For that, I sincerely apologize to all members of this fine species of Mustelidae. They deserve better than to be compared to PEN.

PEN has a long history of idiocy. There's a reason I don't belong to a single professional writers association:

I think Gardner is pretty much right on with this one (don't know his history). Though I'd change his offending sentence to, ". . .who believes that all religions can be dangerous nonesense..."
(based on the history of that matter) His first closing quip is effective, the second rates the circular file.

Enjoy your blog!

Yeah, PEN, one more group of real fire breathers for freedom of expression who suddenly get all nuanced and sensitive. It's stupidity or cowardice, I find it hard to believe there's a third option.
