Once the politicians have given the green light to the military for an overseas expedition, it should be the end of their hand's on involvement. a) they know nothing of tactics or strategy. b) they aren't there.
I can't think of a better example of 'if you delegate responsibility, you must delegate the authority to carry it out.' This nonsense of trying to drive a team of horses, from back in the barn is, pardon the pun, horseshit!
The last time this kind of micromanagement was tried was by Robert Strange McNamara and his boss, LBJ. Hundreds, probably thousands, of deaths ensued.
