Treason as defined by giving aid and comfort to the enemy was killed by the publication of the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam war. Chomsky and Co. can now display their "Dissenter" bona fides by freely associating with our country's enemies, railing about the descent of Amerika into a police state, and collect large speaking fees from other would-be Revolutionaries in the full knowledge that there will be no knock on the door in the middle of the night.

That this poltroon would meet with and praise those who murdered and injured United States Marines in their beds shows both his narcissism and his vulgarity. I agree this is treasonous speech.

But heh, he's standing up to Chimpy McHalliburton and the neo-cons (i.e. Zionists)! He's speaking in larger truths that we mere mortals in Dullardsville are incapable of comprehending.

That is certainly stupid enough to be believed by an intellectual.

Comment by Mark Collins:

When speaking of breaking international law, one might start with the occupation of the US embassy in Tehran. The Nazis, the Soviets and the Japanese never did such a thing.

Gnome Chomsky has baffled with BS for so long that it's astounding that there are people who actually still believe anything he has to say, yet there are. Tapping into delusions is a lucrative business when there are so many people who 'want to believe'. Chomsky's made his millions pretty easily, a lucky fella.

Re: “The regional superpower Israel is threatening to attack it [Iran], ..”

Israel a regional superpower? I guess I missed that one.

John B; in relative regional terms, it is. That's why it still exists. Size of the military isn't what determines it's perceived effectiveness.

Dan:

I suppose it depends on how one defines superpower. I view Israel an over-achiever perhaps and possessing a very well organized and disciplined military. I consider a super power a country possessing a very large economy, population and military with the ability to project that power. Examples would include the U.S., former Soviet Union and increasingly China. Israel has the misfortune to be surrounded by relatives of the Three Stooges that are serial under-achievers but with a population an order of magnitude greater than Israel and enormous wealth – real or potential. That they haven’t been living up to their potential isn’t Israel’s problem.

A super power can afford a mistake or two, not Israel.

Comment by David Fischler:

One wonders whether Noam's tinfoil hat has screened out all of the news about the Iranian president threatening to wipe Israel off the map. Are not those threats "outright violations of international law and of the UN charter"? When will we hear Chomsky's demand that Iran be brought before the ICC and the UNSC and the NLRB and the NOAA and the WHO and everybody else whom he regularly calls on to condemn and try and boycott Israel?

Comment by Bruce Rheinstein:

Chomsky was Pol Pot's chief defender during the Cambodian genocide. Why does anyone listen to what that comfortably tenured toad has to say?
