The results of the Liberals incompetence and mismanagement on our armed forces were more than just dilution and loss of resources. The LIberals anti-military policies also succeeded in creating more of a bureaucracy than a fighing force. The Canadian Armed forces have been neutered in every possible way. Just as the Trudeaupians would have destroyed the intitiative and resourcefulness of the average citizen the socialist manipulators created a "civil service" mentality in the forces that promotes ass-covering and self promotion above duty and honour.
Of course it is the rank and file and the citizens of this country who pay the price for preservation of the bureaucrats!

Treating Cdn. Military personnel like dog shit is an old tradition.

This in today's Vancouver Sun (partial quote)
"
Family of dead soldier fights on
Wife won't stand down until she gets compensation for her husband's death

Master Cpl. Wheeler, 29, died in April 1992 when he was run over by an armoured personnel carrier during a training exercise in Alberta.

The Victoria woman thought the battle was largely won when last year an investigation by then Canadian Forces ombudsman Andre Marin blasted the military establishment for its treatment of the Wheeler family. His report described the entire episode as "a sorry one -- a tale of missteps and misjudgment, of inattention and insensitivity."

I've mentioned in the past, the case of the RCAF pilot who was turfed out when 'they' determined that he was unfit to fly, after his eyes were lasered from the bridge of a Russian Freighter he (and his U.S. co-pilot) had under observation.
I never did hear the fate of his co-pilot, who was also lasered.

This quote also from today's news article:
"But in an April 26 letter, the office of the Canadian Forces' legal adviser told the Wheeler family they don't deserve compensation.

The letter noted errors and delays associated with investigations into Wheeler's death were administrative in nature and

did not make the military liable for any issues that arose from them.

"Regarding to allegations of suffering and depression it is very difficult to distinguish their real sources," the letter stated.

A review of the evidence did not permit the Canadian Forces to determine whether, "Mrs. Wheeler is suffering from the result of the death of her husband or her frustration with the process."

Contrast THAT treatment to the cushy salary increases our MPs gave THEMSELVES!

I just read this at Mclean's

It was shocking and sad.

Canadian military is among the best but they are not appreciated the way other nations' are.

I agree with Dan – trying to save a few dollars by treating the soldiers like crap seems to be a preferred way for those bureaucratically inclined officers to climb the ladder by sucking up to their political (i.e. Liberal) bosses. We hope Hillier is different.

Kudos to Ken Whyte for putting someone on the story and slapping it on the cover of MacLeans for all to see. Its not nice to kick someone when they're down ......... unless their Liberals, and this story hoofs the feckless clowns in the nuts while they are curled up on the pavement. Well done.

Canadians have only themselves to blame for the problems of the military. They bitch and moan about the military's shortcomings and then vote Liberal time after time. canadain's love to blame "the government" as though they had NOTHING to do with creating the problem.

The Army.ca discussion hints at problems with Perry. Anybody that's been in the Army knows there's a type, sometimes very effective but sometimes ready to be a loose cannon.

The criticisms of Perry in the Macleans article didn't come from some wet-nosed subbie that doesn't know anything he hasn't read in the Manual, but from his RSM, the most experienced NCO in the battalion. There's probably more to this story than met Friscolanti's eye.

Still, it's unfortunate that the NIS couldn't investigate without bringing the whole section down around Perry's ears.

True enough about the government glossing over that nasty killing business. We don't want the public knowing that sort of thing. They might get the wrong idea.

Oh, and this: Fuck terrorism. (Their .50-cals fucked a few terrorists, and it looks good on 'em.)

Further to my post yesterday, the former military ombudsman has broken his silence and come out swinging at the military beaurucrats. (sp?)

"
David Pugliese, The Ottawa Citizen
Published: Tuesday, May 16, 2006

OTTAWA -- The Defence Department's treatment of a dead soldier's family, and its decision not to provide them financial compensation is a stunning betrayal of trust by the military leadership and a foreshadowing of potential problems for troops in Afghanistan, says the former Canadian Forces ombudsman."

..And:

"The message being sent to the rank-and-file is, 'Go risk your lives by the thousands in Afghanistan, and if God forbid you get killed we're going to hang your family out to dry,'" Marin said. "And they wonder why they have a recruiting and retention problem."

Neither O'Connor nor Hillier responded to requests for interviews."

Apparently the full text is in the Ottawa Citizen so should be online at Canada.com

Comment by JOHN REID:

As a retired military member I can assure you the Liberals have nothing but distain for their own military and use it as their personal means of transport and other services.
I have seen young soldiers left behind (trying to get home for xmas )because they were bumped from a military aircraft by a usless politician and his family.
The twisted thing here is while dismantling the forces and turning whats left into a cadre of servants for these waste of skin government ass holes, they still train the worlds most capable soldiers...go figure.
