Funny! But a bit scary how easy it is to believe it could be true.

The Cannonball article is a tribute to sound, forward thinking Liberalism. Canada's rôle as an arbiter of international peace must remain in the forefront of our international policies. However, it is true that we are currently somewhat short of military personnel and materiel to be able to intervene in so many theatres. Could I suggest that the rê-introduction of the draft would provide the necesssary men and women (at the same time beating the conservatives at their own game).
Troops would also be supplemented by the highly efficacious social service personnel who could be put under military command and who would provide the expertise necessary to cope with the various civilian issues such as early years playgoups, drug and alcohol abuse, battered wives, food supplements etc that will necessarily be met in these areas. It would also be useful to mobilise our foreign language and cultural experts from the ranks of recent asylum seekers.
In reality Canada has a large unused reserve of people who can be put to good use in the name of peace.
