At least with the UN there's the possibility you might end up with 1) a commander like MGen (Ret) Lewis Mackenzie and 2) permanent partition and tension-filled status quo after fifty years.
That's already a better outcome than having former OPP chief Gwen Boniface as commander, coupled with deliberate undermining of the rule of law. The UN ground commander *might* actually elect to enforce court orders, whereas the OPP and its political masters have already demonstrated no will to do so.

The NDP wants...
Oh, the list is endless. Of course, they want the UN in Caledonia. They believe in equality, remember?
Darfur, Rwanda, Congo, etc. Freakin' nihilists.
Send in Senator Dallaire! He'll give a good heroic cry for the cameras! - and then the situation will be resolved! Just like it was in Rwanda... oh, wait a minute, how was that resolved again? hmmmm, let's try a different 'hero'.

Alas, you may be right. He may not be the "hero".
I can say unequivocally, though, that the UN is certainly no answer. More likely, a bigger problem.
I think this idea by the NDP is jolly clever.
Arms for the operation could be supplied by Maurice Strong from China. (Well Lebanese peacekeepers would have the option of supplying their own rockets for a tax-free bonus if there are any left.)
