Bruce is a top drawer authority on military matters and global politics, and our paths crossed this morning when discussing the latest Lancet brouhaha at Tim Lambert's blog. Still, I think he may be coming down a little hard on Hindraker at Powerline over Hindraker's opinion of the professionalism and objectivity at the Lancet:
"Rather than discussing the study on its merits, or lack thereof, the largest portion of the response so far has been that the study has produced a politically relevant result, so it cannot be the truth. (See, as an example, prominent John Hinderaker, effortlessly dismissing one of the most prestigious journals in medical science as "bozos.")"
Spend four minutes watching this Youtube video of Lancet editor Richard Horton in action at an anti-Blair rally (if you can stand it for that long), then let me know how you feel about the possibility of bias motivating the Lancet's two Iraq studies. I won't bother asking for an opinion on the Lancet's straight-faced claim that the timing of the study's release had nothing to do with the upcoming Congressional elections. The Youtube video takes care of that little fib quite nicely.
To quote Anthony Cordesman, on the day the study was released, " this isn't analysis, it's politics."

Capt. Rolston is quite knowledgable in military affairs and I do enjoy his posts on those matters. In everything else, though, he tends to come across like your garden variety Toronto-constituency Liberal MP.
